Willemstad, August 21, 2013 – On August 20th Kris Berry received a warm welcome from her biggest fans on the island at De Tropen Cafe. Berry has returned home to perform for the first time at the 2013 Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival on Friday, August 30th, at the Etta James stage from 6.30pm – 7.30pm. Curacao can finally experience Berry’s talent which has many fans in Europe talking. Kris Berry (Curaçao, 1982) has always surrounded herself with music; in the Netherlands Antilles where she grew up and in the European cities where she lived and studied after she left the islands at age 19. Country, Cuban music and jazz basically formed the soundtrack of her youth. She released her first EP ‘Flower Empty Tree’, at the beginning of 2011, after an interesting career switch.Her talent was DSC_2359immediately recognized and Dutch Radio 6 awarded her with the ‘Soul & Jazz Talent Award’ in October of 2012. Kris was also awarded the Pearl of the Dutch Caribbean earlier that year. She played live at all major radio shows and played dozens of supports, including opening for Selah Sue. Her debut album ‘Marbles’ was released in April 2012. It was produced by Paul Willemsen (Ruben Hein a.o.) and mixed by Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club). The album was very well received by the Dutch press. A tour of 18 months through the Netherlands followed, including gigs in famous venues like Paradiso, 013 and Tivoli and festivals like Eurosonic and North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands. This year it’s her turn to perform on her beloved island. She crossed the borders to perform at Trafalgar Square at the London festival and in Berlin, and the song ‘Love Trip’ was used in an American commercial for Sears. 2013 started off with a tour with Wouter Hamel, Ruben Hein and the Amsterdam Sinfoniëtta where she played in a sold-out Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Kris is currently working on a second album, this time with renowned producer, composer and artist Perquisite, known from his successful hip hop album with rapper Pete Philly. Their current single, Hitchhike, is out now- check it out on Spotify, Youtube and iTunes or catch their Album Release Concert in the Melkweg in Amsterdam on September 19th.
