CIBC FIRSTCARIBBEAN CONTRIBUTES TO THE SYNOVAL SARCOMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION


Willemstad,Curaçao, June, 2014. Mr. Rik Parkhill, CEO of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, the largest regionally-listed bank in the English- and Dutch speaking Caribbean, presented a donation check to the Synovial Sarcoma Research Foundation during his recent visit to Curaçao. “Synovial sarcoma is a rare form of cancer which usually occurs near the joints of the arm, neck or leg” Mr. Parkhill explained “and most commonly afflicts adolescents and young adults.It is important to perform specific research on this form of soft tissue sarcoma in order to improve possibilities for care and cure especially for young people as they are our future. That’s why we want to join this meaningful objective.” CIBC FirstCaribbean has made assistance to persons affected by cancer one of the pillars of the work of its charitable foundation, the CIBC FirstCaribbean ComTrust Foundation. Over the past two years, staff across the Caribbean has raised funds to assist the fight against cancer in the region. Later this year the third annual Walk for the Cure will be organized across the Caribbean with various accompanying fundraising activities, of which the proceeds will be donated to cancer organizations around the Caribbean that support and care for persons battling cancer. CIBC FirstCaribbean first joined its parent company, CIBC, in the Walk for the Cure in 2012, as part of the Caribbean operation’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
